‘If I had a real Pokemon, I’d probably want it to be just a normal cat with powers! Also with a skull? So that’s kinda what I did! I just looked at other entries to figure out what goes on a Pokemon card… Despite the popularity of the Pokemon show we put on, I’m actually not that familiar with Pokemon. I’ve played one game (on DS) but don’t know much about it otherwise. I think I was a senior in High School when Pokemon first came out, so I kind of missed the boat. ‘

“This is Poseidoct. He may look like an ordinary octopus but he is huge in size and carries a lethal punch! He’s so huge you can’t even keep him confined to the illustration box! I decided to totally hand paint the whole card and add the text in on Photoshop afterwards. I had a lot of fun with this and is probably one of the most nerdy things I’ve ever drawn :)”

Dewchops by Ben Ho
‘This is a Dewchops! Dewchops are notable for the giant bubbles they carry on their back, blown out from a single nostril behind their neck. The bubble balloon it blows is essential to its daily life as it aids them in floating along the lake which would otherwise be tough on their tiny limbs. Though generally docile, take caution when one becomes hungry. It eats so much!’

Here’s a painting of my invented pokemon Dandilion. He’s a grass and flying hybrid type who is small in size but powerful too! My favourite pokemon have always been the small but mighty ones.
